Hi folks,
Here's some new stuff for the transcription section of our website. While we've been kind of on a vacation lately, '"Wolf and the Moon" has been viewed quite a lot on the web. Thanks to Petri Siikanen we managed to make a very 'bang for the buck' clip of it. I just wish Spinefarm had lived up to their talks and put some money into the production so we really could have made the video into what the song would have deserved. I've been asked on a few occasions about the guitars on this particular song, so here we go.
This is a song that actually got started by me trying to write something for someone else based on a 'lead'. Without going any further into it, I soon realized that whatever this thing was going to be it was just becoming too damn good to be given away. Anyway, there definitely was a new bigger and more symphonic vibe to the whole song than what we had previously had and I loved the way it turned out already as a demo. It is also different than most of earlier stuff lyrically, a love gone bad to a disaster dressed into almost a horror scene. I still love the song as much as I did when we finished recording it.
About the guitar notation, again we're in a half down tuning on the album, so what sounds like a Bm is actually played as Cm. This notation is for a 7-string as both Torsti and me used those for the album. It can be played with a 6-string, just play it an octave higher (like Torsti does live), and that shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
The rhythm guitars are very easy on this one even though there might be more chords than you'd expect. The solo is very much what I had just quickly come up with for the demo. It fit well so I just played it a bit sharper for the album. Notice the accidental hats off to Ritchie Blackmore's (again...) Highway Star at the very end of the solo. I didn't realize it until later.
So tune down a half step (or pitch the track), figure out the riffs if you're on a six string and have fun.
See ya,
T
